Enemies of the Skin. Holistic Skin Health.
I am very excited to share this interesting topic with everyone! If you already know my story, my goal in starting Hush Bubbles is to create gentle yet effective natural skincare products! In order for me to achieve that, I needed to have a thorough understanding of the skin. In order for me to have a good understanding, I need to know what the enemies of the skin are! Let's jump right into it!
TOP 3 ENEMIES OF THE SKIN:
It's important to recognize that cosmetics are not the only factor affecting the skin. Lifestyle and environmental factors can also have a significant impact.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body. It can be challenging to protect it from pollution and chemicals, but the food you eat on a daily basis makes a much more significant difference. For instance, acne is linked to a refined carb/high sugar diet. So how does what you eat affect your skin? Consuming healthy foods will reflect on your body from the inside out. Besides staying fit and energetic, your skin is also smooth and glowing. People who lack nutrients are more likely to develop fine lines, acne breakouts, and other skin conditions.
Aside from the fact that smoking can kill you, it increases the production of an enzyme that breaks down collagen - the fiber that holds the skin together. As collagen and elastin degrade, skin sagging and deeper wrinkles develop. It also restricts blood flow, thereby preventing oxygen and nutrients delivery to the skin cells. This explains why some smokers appear pale, while others develop uneven coloring.
Dry skin and dehydrated skin aren't necessarily the same thing. Low humidity and lack of moisturizer can make your skin dry and cracked, despite drinking plenty of water. Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, lacks moisture from within. Skin may appear not only dry and itchy, but also dull, uneven, and wrinkled.
There are a lot of people who don't drink a lot of water, and some people don't even drink any! Getting enough water into your body is imperative for skin health. Try this tiny test to determine if you are dehydrated: Lightly pinch a small area of your cheek or neck. If your skin wrinkles beneath your finger or if it doesn't bounce back immediately after you release it, then that's a sign of dehydration. Try to monitor your water consumption. This will help you keep track of the amount of water you drink!
